Our Start Series was inspired by our very own kids! We designed the Start 24” for young riders with a skill level that ranges from intermediate to advanced who are on the verge of their first adult bicycle—but still need a bit more time before taking that step. The Start 24” generally fits riders who are 7-13 years old.

About The Start 24"
Which Start is Right for Your Child
ASSEMBLING THE START 24"
The 24-inch bicycle needs to have a lot of flexibility to accommodate advancing skills and to fit riders across a broad size range. The features also need to perform well on varied terrain. We've worked hard to ensure our Start 24" model meets those challenges while being low maintenance, long lasting, and a good value. Riders can use the Start 24" as they grow in size and strength before transitioning to an adult-sized bicycle. With its high quality frame and components, we want the Start 24" to last beyond just one child—so it can be handed down to family and friends.

Chains are the # 1 issue on bicycles. They get dirty, fall off, and they're at a perfect height for kids to grab and then get grease everywhere. Our rust-free and grease-free Gates Belt is cleaner, smoother, and doesn’t require maintenance. Also, it won’t snap off or break under the weight of a rider.
This is the same industry-leading Shimano hub that's featured on our adult models. The 3-speed internally geared hub carries the same range as a 7-speed cassette, in a cleaner, more efficient, ultra low-maintenance package.
The Start 24" can grow with your young rider. The adjustable stem raises and lowers for comfort across a wide range of ages and sizes.
Dual handbrake levers connected to smooth stopping v-brakes allow for a comfortable, confident ride. The levers are placed at a kid-friendly reach for their smaller hands.
Kids bikes get left on lawns with sprinklers, tossed in the back of cars, dropped, and any number of other things that happen with our little ones. The lightweight aluminum frame won’t rust, neither will the alloy wheels and stainless steel spokes. It’s a quality bike built to last long enough for sharing with siblings and friends.
It’s an awesome feeling when your kids are ready to ride with—and without— you. But road debris and sharp stones on bike paths can be a real bummer. Our puncture-resistant tires help protect against unwanted flats.
The mid-step frame design helps younger riders easily mount and dismount the bicycle with an overall geometry that will accommodate the rider as they grow. This allows for much more flexibility over time.
Start here for the Start 24" to get your child safely riding in comfort, style, and confidence. Note: While height and age range are noted, recommended leg inseam is the primary factor when determining the correct frame size for your child.

You have questions. We have answers.
What size is best for my child?
Inseam is best. Start there. While bicycles target age and height, inseam will be the best determining factor for which bicycle is best for your child. As their riding confidence increases, so will their ability to ride bigger bicycles. They will move from a more flat-footed stopping position to their tiptoes, ultimately being able to slide forward off their seat at stopped positions.
How many speeds does the bicycle have?
Our Start 24" model features a Shimano 3-speed hub—the same hub we use on our adult recreational bicycles—offering a nice gear range with simple intuitive usage for climbing hills (gear 1), flat cruising (gear 2), and gaining speed (gear 3). It is equivalent to a 7-speed rear cassette but with far less hassle and much cleaner overall.
Can I add training wheels?
Training wheels can be added to our Start 16" (they don't come with the bicycle though). Typically for age-based sizing, riders on our Start 20" and 24" models are already cruising with confidence, so those bicycle models don’t support training wheels.
